Sports injury compensation amounting to £54,000 has been awarded to an ex-rugby player who suffered a serious and disabling fracture to his right kneecap.
When the incident occurred Jack Sutton, 20, from Mountsorrel, Loughborough, in Leicestershire, was just sixteen years old and was playing in a pre-season training game for Syston Rugby Club’s, under seventeen team.
A career destroying injury was received by Mr. Sutton as he scored a try for the Leicestershire rugby club.
A broken plastic marker, which was hidden in the lush grass and protruded roughly half an inch out from the turf, caused fracture to his knee as Mr. Sutton went over the try line during the game.
Consequently, launched a sports injury compensation claim against Syston Rugby Football Club Ltd, of Queniborough, Leicestershire, was launched by Mr. Sutton which claimed that the club had been negligent by not conducting an adequate pitch inspection prior to the game, a claim which the rugby club denied.
However, Milton Keynes County Court approved the claim and awarded Mr. Sutton £54,000 in damages.
