The bully was armed with a wooden drawing board and consequently, Jed suffered injuries to both his arm and shoulder in an effort to defend himself against the assault. Because of the sustained injuries the victim was admitted to the hospital.

Stacey Winfindale, 37, mother of the victim was horrified to learn that the boy who attacked her son was only given a suspension of  two days as punishment, despite previous disruptive incidents in the past and so decided to take legal action.

She told newspapers that in her effort she was not concerned about money and only wanted to make a stand against the education authorities.

After Rotherham Council’s education authority admitted liability for the incident, it made Jed one of the first pupils to be awarded compensation for being bullied.
