Number of Successful Personal Injury Claims Against Councils Drops

A survey that included over 75 councils spread across the country has revealed that the number of successful personal injury claims against local councils has fallen dramatically since 2004. The survye, carried out by consumer group Nowinnofee.co.uk, showed that between 2004-2009 the number of successful claims fell from 31% to 19%, despite an increase in the number of claims actually made.

This strikes a blow to those looking to make frivolous claims against the council, as it shows it is become less and less likely that a successful compensation claim will be made unless the personal injury is proven to be a genuine result of an accident for which the claimant has no blame.

The survey also showed that many councils now have liability insurance, however most successful claims were paid for using public funds rather than by insurers.
